Presidents message

Welcome Back Loiederman Community!

On behalf of the PTSA, Welcome to Loiederman for the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Lynn Amano, and I am your PTA President 2016-2017.

If you are new to Loiederman, you will soon discover that we have a very unique and supportive school community. Our motto is “Every Child is an Artist”.  Students, teachers and staff here bring this creativity to their attitude and their classrooms. It seems like there is always something artistic going on here at Loiederman:  art shows, plays and musicals, band and choir performances, and special events. As parents, students, and teachers, the time invested helps us build a strong school community. Parents are always telling me about how happy their kids are to be at Loiederman.

The PTSA will be hosting fun events and meetings throughout the schools year. Look for Heritage Night (coming up in October), a Parent/Teacher Social, and a Family Night Out.

In the meantime, let me encourage you to join the PTSA and reap the benefits. In case you were wondering, here’s a list of five reasons you should do this now:

Help your student thrive!   PTSA provides kids with opportunities to participate in events and field trips by helping cover the cost of transportation and providing scholarships to kids who can’t afford them. These field trips support their learning in social studies, English, science, and math as well as support their development in specific arts. Last year we helped provide scholarships so that kids could participate in Outdoor Education. We can also fund after school tutoring and mentoring in specific subjects like Algebra, and supplies like Chromebooks for classes.

Honor and support your student’s teachers through appreciation events like the Welcome Breakfast on August 26 and mini-grants to help with supplies.  (Like dance shoes for the dance classes, and the Sports Awards Night for our athletes and

coaches.) Better support for teachers means better learning for kids.

Network with other parents. The PTSA  holding general membership meetings designed to help inform parents and support them in negotiating the Middle Schools years. Our programs have brought in experts to help us learn about technology and how to handle it, (What apps is my child using and how?), how to recognize depression or mental illness in teens, magnet and other special HS programs, career and college planning, and more.

ADVOCATE! Would you like to help us get an auditorium for our school performances? We need your membershipWe are the only performing arts Middle School in Montgomery County. Having an adequate space to perform should be an integral part of our program here. Your membership gives us a voice at the Board of Education.  The more members we have, the stronger our voice.    Schools with strong PTAs have seen major changes.  If you can come help us advocate, great! But you don’t have to. Just JOINING encourages the County Council and Board of Education to pay attention to us.

REAP the benefits! Who knew being a PTA member came with benefits? Your PTA membership gets you discounts and rewards at Sylvan Learning Centers, Herz Rent-a-car, Quicken Loans, and more.

If you haven’t joined already for the 2016-2017 school year…. You can join directly on the PTSA website.

Please feel free to contact me or the other Board members with questions about the school or PTSA. We will be at the PTA Table accepting memberships at Back to School night and each of the Grade Level Meetings.

Warmly, Your PTSA Board:

Lynn Amano
